Post-doctoral Opportunity

Funding is available for a postdoctoral associate position with Katia Koelle in the Dept. of Biology at Duke University in Durham, NC as early as Jan. 1, 2009. The position involves the development and application of mathematical and statistical models to understand the ecological and evolutionary patterns of rapidly evolving pathogens. Specific applications include influenza virus in multiple different hosts (including humans) and dengue virus. Applicants should have (or be expecting) a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Biology, or Applied Math. Experience in mathematical modeling or statistical data analysis is necessary. Previous research in infectious diseases is desired but not required. The ideal candidate would also be familiar with research in the field of complex systems.  Post-doc salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The initial appointment will be for one year. Funding is available for a second year, with continuation depending upon performance.
